"We encourage the use of the Gentle Leader in our Goodpuppy TM Social Club classes. While using the Gentle Leader, new puppy owners quickly achieve success while teaching good puppy manners including sit, stay, down, and come. The headcollar is also an excellent tool for managing unwanted puppy behaviors such as nipping and biting, jumping and pulling. We've seen timid puppies fitted with Gentle Leaders become more confident and assertive puppies become calmer. We believe the Gentle Leader is a humane training collar which fits perfectly with our training philosophy of "catch your puppy being successful" enabling puppy owners to build a relationship with their family companion based on trust and affection. The use of the Gentle Leader makes it easy for us to catch puppy owners being successful!
The GoodpuppyTM Social Club instructors and volunteers are true believers and active promoters of the Gentle Leader because we all have experienced the benefits first hand with our own family companions."

"I have always been impressed with how closely Gentle Leader® mimics the methods I have frequently seen wolves use to communicate with and control each other. It is a great aid to imparting discipline according to the primary rules of wolf behavior - use only enough force to make a point, deliver it safely and quickly and stop as soon as the undesirable behavior ends (and follow it up with reassurances that your bond to the recipient is strong and loving). I have found it a great tool for fostering improved communication between dogs and their people."

Randall Lockwood, Ph.D. - Animal Behaviorist, Vice President/Training Initiatives,
The Humane Society of the United States.

"We use Gentle Leader headcollars with many of the dogs at the Animal Humane Society. They are especially useful for desensitizing nervous and anxious dogs that may object to procedures like a physical examination, grooming, or nail trimming. The collars are also used by volunteers who help rehabilitate fearful dogs - they often dramatically speed up the process of making a dog more suitable for adoption. One of the most common reasons people surrender dogs to our shelter is because they are difficult to control or train. We have found that the Gentle Leader headcollar is the most effective tool to help new owners reduce unwanted behaviors like pulling and jumping. This leads to a better relationship between people and their new pet and can help reduce the number of dogs surrendered to the shelter."

"I use the Gentle Leader® every daily walk with my 70 lb. headstrong Labrador (mixed breed). When he wears Gentle Leader®, I control the pace and direction and my dog is no longer out of control. We also use the Gentle Leader® at the Humane Society to "gentle" some of our dogs and increase their potential for adoption. Gentle Leader® seems more humane than choke collars and goes well with upholding the humane principles and ideals of the Society"

Roland Olson, D. V. M., M. P. H., Shelter Manager, Humane Society of Ramsey County, MN

"We at the St. Croix Animal Shelter, feel that the Gentle Leader® is a more humane way of training yourdog. It is better than the choke collar; is much easier for the dog and provides excellent control for the handler."

Joan Richert, Executive Director, St. Croix Animal Shelter, Inc., MN

"We see an unfortunate number of animals euthanized every day due to behavioral problems that the owners decide they can no longer tolerate. I feel that if more dog owners were educated about the benefits of the Gentle Leader® headcollar we would see the number of animals put to death decrease. We have just started to use the Gentle Leader® to work with dogs at our local pound who might seem unadoptable to the average family because of their unwanted behavior. We have seen dramatic results. A number of dogs' lives have literally been saved because of the Gentle Leader®. We plan to make ita key part of our adoption program and hope to save many more lives as a result."

Michael Spence, President, Hanover Humane Society, Hanover County, VA

"Sometimes it takes a while, but we always like to give a worthwhile product a plug. We recently came across a product that may be of interest to some of our readers...who dislike the idea of using a "choker" training collar. Because some dog owners do not use the traditional "choker" training collar properly, their dogs have a tendency to strain against the ever-tightening collar, often resulting in the dog going into aparoxysm of coughing as the windpipe (trachea) is partially collapsed by the "choker"collar. This can not happen with the Gentle Leader®. This feature is particularly noticeable when teaching your dog to"heel" (walking by your side). So, if you have stopped walking your dog because he drags you to embarrassment and exhaustion then you might consider this inexpensive device."

Erik Hendricks, Executive Director, The Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, in "Animaldom" Vol. 57, No. 3, Sept. 1987
